Grounded

Grounded is a series of photographic documentary work that explores slow fashion and slow travel in Scandinavia.
“Reflecting on my recent travel to Scandinavia, I remember so many conversations centred around a mindset of slow fashion and slow travel, the chorus of voices around me agreeing that the tune comes from the same song.
A self-reflected philosophy that pulls individuals forward to a place that aligns with values and connects a community of like-minded people. Grounded individuals who keep their feet firmly on the ground, thinking not only about their own wellbeing and pleasure but also the people and natural world around them.
It was a slow and effortless journey traversing three countries, peering out train windows and collecting memories. Memories initially connected to pin-pointed moments that would expand until the origins of each were intertwined, building a mindset that was so outreaching and familiar that it felt humbling to be part of.
People walking by were stopped and softly spoken to, unaware of their beauty and the moments of value they reflected in the world. The same story repeated on lips: clothes used, pre-loved, given and receiving new life. Only one encounter, unlike the others, revealed a similar perspective from a different place. Uniquely, she wore clothes that were bought new but restricted to only one item per year. A nuanced perspective to the otherwise consistent approach worn by the cool girls around me. An important reminder of our individualism, even in a country that feels so consistent with its visual value.
Pulling bags weighted heavily with clothes from train platforms to carriages seems ironic now as memories and my own perspective builds. The journey past prompts questions that repeat in my mind: How much do we really need, and how can we slow down? What are we searching for?”
